Printing is the process of reproducing text and images on papers, fabric or flex banners with ink. The practice is a commercial process often linked with news publications and advertising. Printing is believed was first invented by Mesopotamians around 3500 BC. The earliest form of printing was cylinder seals followed by wood block printing done by Chinese around 220 AD.
The printing industry has today developed to such a sophisticated level that it can reproduce the images on papers to give the same experience to the reader as they see them in natural environment. The process is almost automated and controlled by modern computers from paper selection, feeding to printing, folding and packing.
Printing being an essential commercial process, a number of large scale printing firms are in operation in Sri Lanka. Also, in almost all cities in the country, at least one printing place could be located.
